THE HISTORY OF SUKSIS UPM CORPS

The Student Volunteer Police Corps was established as a result of the idea put forth by Dato' Seri Abdullah Bin Haji Ahmad Badawi during his speech at the inauguration of the 12th Convocation Expo of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah on August 5, 1999. His suggestion is for all public universities in Malaysia to establish a policing-oriented co-curricular program.

The UPM SUKSIS Corps was officially established on June 20, 2005. The first intake of coaches began in the same year as the entry of new students in the July 2006 session. The intake of 70 students has formed Squad 1/2006 and has settled at Tun Perak College. For six (6) semesters over the course of three (3) years, training must be undertaken by the SUKSIS UPM trainers. Additionally, students who participate in the SUKSIS UPM Corps will be granted an advantage of six (6) credit hours throughout this training.

Among the training that the trainees learn are fitness training, legal knowledge, marching, weapon drills, first aid, armament, shooting, and also martial arts. (SMD). The coach also had the opportunity to participate in training with PDRM formations such as the Marine Branch (PGM), Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), General Operations Force (PGA), Air Unit, and Forensic Unit.
